IT platform for measuring the quality of internet access services
Client: ANCOM (National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications of Romania)
Project period: 24 February 2014 – 12 August 2014
Project beneficiaries:
Internet service providers
ANCOM staff
End users
The main objective of the project was to design, develop and implement an online solution, available on the ANCOM website, for testing the quality of internet access services.
Users need clear, objective information to assess the quality of their internet service and compare the performance of different providers.
The solution is a dedicated tool for measuring and analysing real connection performance. It assesses the quality of the connection between the end user’s device and a test server located at an Internet Exchange node.
To run a test, the user selects their internet service provider, their commercial plan and the connection type. Licensed internet service providers are responsible for keeping the technical data for their active plans up to date in the application, through a dedicated web interface.
A tool for greater transparency
The solution gives users access to relevant information and measurements on internet service quality, helping them understand their connection performance and make informed decisions.
- Secure account-based access for internet access service providers, enabling them to enter and periodically update their specific information.
- Intuitive and accessible interfaces for end users, internet access service providers, and ANCOM representatives.
- Technical performance testing, allowing end users to enter their preferred options in dedicated forms and perform tests to measure the technical parameters of their internet access service. Following the test, the platform displays the results to the end user.
- Direct comparison of statistical reports from multiple internet access service providers based on different sets of user-selected criteria.
- Reporting and analytics capabilities for ANCOM representatives, enabling them to generate various reports and statistics on platform activity.
- Measurement of actual connection performance.
- Access to technical parameters, including download speed, upload speed, and latency.
- Access to statistics on the quality of services provided by internet access service providers.
- Measurement history tracking and the ability to perform automated tests.
